Project History
RSI Ltd, based in Derbyshire, is a Bridge Inspection and Testing company
and is
currently working on some of the busiest infrastructures in the UK.
Area 9
Since 2002, RSI Ltd has been a major sub-contractor to Amey (formally AmeyMouchel) and is a supply chain partner. Amey are appointed as the Highways Agency Managing Agent Contractor for Area 9.
The UK is divided into numbered areas, each covering large sections of the country's highway network. All trunk road structures within these areas are entered into a rolling safety inspection program as part of a management contract. RSI Ltd specialises in bridge inspections and, between 2002 and 2010, carried out all the inspections within Area 9, covering the whole of Birmingham, plus up to approximately 65 miles of the surrounding area. This includes towns and cities such as Shrewsbury, Worcester, Hereford and Ross-on-Wye.
Within this extensive region are a multitude of structures, varying from masonry arch river bridges in the more remote areas, to multi-span structures such as viaducts supporting Birmingham’s busy motorway network. (The Midland Links).
Following completion of an inspection, RSI inspection staff input condition reports directly onto the Highways Agency Structures Management Information System (SMIS). This includes recommended maintenance actions, which often lead to subsequent non-destructive testing which RSI Ltd also specialise in.
